Opening Night 2023

Game 1:  (1-0-0); EKL (1-0-0)
23 March vs. Blue Valley North (3-0)


Despite the match being an opening game with Spring Break wiping out lots of practice days, the Saints came out pretty darn sharp in those first 30 minutes. 

About 16 in, Cabantac made a conscious effort to come away with a corner (Check it out)while dribbling at the baseline.  That effort lead to the first goal of the season as Sydney put the corner right on Andi's head for a great goal.

The second goal illustrated a perfect give-and-go between Marn and Watts. 

And our third goal also came on a corner. Two corners in the half, and two goals off them.

We had just missed a goal earlier in the match on a great build down the right side with a diagonal ball played from Brooklyn through a Cabantac dummy for a shot wide—just great soccer (Check it Out!).

Although North was not particularly dangerous when they were in the front third of the field, they did create chances and get shots off.  The Mustangs got 10 shots off with 6 of them on goal.

We bring back, off an undefeated State Championship team, quite a roster. 

Jane Hansen did an excellent job dropping back a level to take Assa Kante's vacated spot at centerback. She and Scherzer played well together in the middle of the back. 

Sidney Zinkus made her varsity debut, playing both wing fullback and up top. She and Spinello finished up our back line, and with Maggie in goal and Andi at the 6, goals should be hard to come by for our opponents.

And it was a game where we played the roster. There wasn't much drop-off on the defensive side of the ball at all. 

Coach Brown made his Saint Thomas Aquinas coaching debut with a solid win over a good BV North team.

24:39: Rylance (Watts bends the right-side corner)

19:30: Watts (give-and-go with Marn)

13:16 Sandvig (Watts puts the left-sided corner in that Cabantec nicely "tees" to the top of the box for a Spinello shot that is blocked back to Mia for the one-touch finish)

Mo-Kan starts Monday as we will open against Sion at 7:30. It should be a great tournament as the Saints go for a 4-peat.

"Kansas Covered" Covers Latest Saint Title

The Saints won their third straight and 18 th  overall Saturday, downing Bishop Carroll 2-0 at the Class 5A State Championship in Topeka.    Prior to Saturday, Bishop Carroll had permitted just one goal to an opponent from within the borders of the state of Kansas all season. Aquinas equaled that total in a flash. Post Season Begins!

16 May 2023 vs. Shawnee Heights (4-0) Game 17: 14-2-1 2023 STATS The Saints finished the regular season strong, winning the EKL, with a 13-2-1 record, and beating some big time teams to end it. All of that gave us just this one home game tonight as the 5-seed in the Northeast—now that's a bit odd, but it all started with our first dose of Topeka. 6-9-1 Heights kept the score reasonable as we only lead 1-0 at half, winning 4-0. We did hold possession most of the time, and only rarely did the Thunderbirds cross midfield—but they played hard for the entire game, and their keeper was active, saving quite a few shots.  The Thuderbirds created a few stats in the second half—a shot on goal and a couple of corners For us, the only worry is Alexis, as she landed funny fairly early in the second half. I am sure only an MRI will tells us for sure if her knee made it through the fall in tack (a late-night report suggested she was going to be ok). Let's hope so. She has been so good all sea...
