BVNW: The Rematch

Game 10:  (8-1-1); EKL (3-1-1)
25 April vs. Blue Valley Northwest (0-1)

Region IV Rankings (Mo., Kan., Ark., Ok.)

The last time we played Blue Valley Northwest they had one loss, and were playing us in the championship of the Mo-Kan. We lead 3-0 at half, winning 4-1. The rematch was at SWI-DAC with an EKL result on the line, and Sydney back from National Camp. Northwest came in 4-4, yet to win an EKL match. But my did they show up tonight. And we, honestly, were not at our best tonight.

It was Senior Night for Northwest, and that fact alone may have given them some extra juice.  They won the 50/50 ball competition by quite a bit.

The match was still 0-0 with a bit more than 20 to go, but then the Huskies picked up a corner kick—those are always opportunities to score. We did not get the ball cleared, and as it sat there on the ground in the box for a second, King got there first to hit a nice shot.

We still had 21 minutes to get the thing tied. Cabantac had come the closest to scoring (Check it out!) just before their goal. After winning back the ball off a weak clear, she corralled it surrounded by Huskies, took a couple of touches to her left, before hitting a rope that Karani deflected off the bar, down and out, for a corner.

We had a few shots during that final 21, but nothing particularly dangerous.

Overall defensively, we did limit them to very few opportunities in the final third, except for that ultimate corner.

The Huskies played very well tonight! They deserved the win.

We have had quite a run as we had not lost a game in our last 37 matches—that's something. Now we need to learn from this one and focus on winning the EKL and a State Title.

The Jags moved into first place in the EKL tonight with a win over Blue Valley. St. James gave Southwest its first EKL loss tonight to go with their two ties.

And now we are off to Nationals to take on two quality opponents. (There are rumors we are bringing back The Talent Show!) Stay tuned.
