Saints return to Wichita
Game 9: (8-0-1); EKL (3-0-1)
21 April vs. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (4-1)
The girls traveled to Wichita for a varsity-only match against long-time West Bracket buddy, Kapaun Mt. Carmel. Kapuan entered the match only 4-6-0, but lately the Crusaders have up their schedule quite a bit, playing Kansas City teams. They even have a nice 1-0 win over Bishop McGuinness of Oklahoma City.
Sydney missed her 3rd straight match as the Saints started the lineup we have gone with since her trip to National Team camp.
The girls pretty much controlled the match from the start, leading 2-0 midway through the first half. We dominated the midfield with Anisten putting on quite a show with her touch and distribution skills.
We did give up a goal off a corner right before the first half ended.
We added a couple of nice second half goals to finish the match 4-1. Jane Hansen had moved to midfield in the second half, and sure enough she added a goal.
Zinkus and Spinello both continue to add to the offense from the back—both girls have come forward so well this season without sacrificing anything defensively.
Maura Maher logged her first varsity minutes in her second varsity suit-up.
The girls travelled well, a trait that will bode well for next weekend in Iowa we hope. There we will take on two of the top teams in the country—undefeated Waukee Northwest (IA) (7-0-0) and Divine Savior (5-1-1) out of Wisconsin.
We will host Blue Valley Northwest Tuesday before leaving. It will be our second match against Northwest this year, but this one will count as an EKL match.
First Half:
Saints: Shots: 9 (6) Corners: 6 (O'Keefe 2, Holton, Spinello, Cabantac 2, Marn)
22:17 O'Keefe (Holton pushes it across for touch and turn as Maggie puts it far post)
Crusaders:
Shots: 1 (1) Corners: 3
3:15 Barrous (She hits the corner low towards front post, and it skips in the wrong side of the post)
Second Half:
Saints: Shots: 6 (4) Corners: 5 (Sandvig, Marn, Holton, Zinkus, Cabantac)
39:08 Marn (Zinkus comes forward on the overlap putting a shot off the keeper to Brooklyn who puts it in)
34:20 Hansen (Rylance finds O'Keefe who t's it across, all the way through for Spinello coming up from the back to lift it back across for a Jane touch-in at mid-post)
Crusaders: Shots: 3 (1) Corners: 2
Shoutout: Maggie O'Keefe played in the Spring Olympics Volleyball Championship at 1:45 before scoring a goal 4.5 hours later in Wichita!
