Big EKL Match vs. Miege
Game 13: (10-2-1); EKL (4-1-1)
2 May vs. Bishop Miege (3-0)
With two weeks left in regular season, the EKL and number one seed are still in play for the Saints, but they must win out—and that still might not be enough.
We started our final 4 against Bishop Miege who came to Aquinas without an EKL win yet—we had seen how well that worked out last week against Blue Valley Northwest. Miege, moreover, will be the 4A favorite and they have lost to Blue Valley, 3-2, and in OT to St. James, 1-0. So they will bring it.
.
But the girls were pretty solid tonight, finishing the Stags off 3-0, and that's with 3 balls off the iron in the first half. It was a business-like performance.
We earned 9 corners in the second half, 5 created by Watts—and, yes, we did cash one of them for back-on goal by Maggie.
The worst part of the match was the second half injury to Zinkus; she went down hard on her shoulder. I am assuming an X-ray will be forthcoming.
Most all of the suited-ups players played in this one, and all played well.
We really got some nice results for us around the league tonight. St. James downed BV West and Blue Valley beat BV Southwest. So, we are back on top of the EKL, and we are 1/2 game back of St. James now in the 5A Northeast seeding. Piper, Topeka Seaman, and Sumner are all a hair in front of the Thunder—so these last three games are important for post-season seeding. Check it out!
