State Quarters vs BVSW
Game 19: 16-2-1
23 May 2023 vs. Blue Valley Southwest at STA (4-0)
2023 STATS
You would have thought this would have been a lot closer match. In fact, before the match began, we had some angst hanging around in the air. Alexis had been scratched from postseason with an official ACL tear, Cara was starting at the "8," and Southwest was coming off two spreads—and we knew we were lucky to tie them the first time around.
And honestly, the first half presented a very competitive match, ending with us up 1-0.
We got to see Zinkus play quite a bit at the defensive center midfield spot, and she was very good. We even caught some O'Keefe at left back, and she, also, was pretty darn good. And with Cara playing perhaps 35 minutes at the "8," we got to see just how versatile this bunch really is.
But the second half was not competitive at all, really. Southwest got some shots off, but most all of them sailed well above the goal. After 7 minutes of the second half, we were up 3-0, game over.
We built two great goals for our first two, and then, first, Brooklyn just went 1 v 1 for our third goal, before Watts finished the scoring off dispossessing their centerback and driving to goal to make it 4-0.
We finished the last seven minutes of the game with Payne being our only starter on the field.
We now move to the state semi-finals, for our 4th time in a row, Friday night, at 5:00 PM against undefeated Maize South (19-0, 4-1 winner over Maize) whose best player will be playing for Arkansas in college. St. James (a 3-0 winner over Spring Hill) will take on Bishop Carroll (a 1-0 winner over Andover Central) at 5:00 PM.
