The Last Regular Season Match of 2023 Season

6 May vs. Blue Valley (3-0)

I don't recall many seasons ending with such an important match as we had tonight—the EKL Title was on the line, as we travelled to Blue Valley to take on a  12-2-0 Tiger team that had only lost to BVSW (2-0) and BVW (3-2). They, however, beat BVSW in their official EKL match, making them 5-1-0 in the EKL, to our 4-1-1 coming into this showdown. 


But the game did not really live up to its billing, as the Saints jumped out to the lead and lead comfortably throughout. 

Maggie collected some balls in the air, but did not really have to make a big-time save in this one. Alexis and Jane kept the middle of the box pretty clean.



Syd and Brooklyn teamed up to get us up 2-0 pretty early. And then second half, Andi hit a perfect over-the-top pass from distance to Syd who accelerated to goal to just hit a beautiful shot from the top of the box far post.



These last two wins should set us up well for playoffs, as the team is playing very well going into post season—thriving.

It was nice to see Anna DiCarlo back up with varsity for this big match tonight. She played some nice center midfield (or as the Blue Valley announcer calls it, "middle field") in the second half.

The girls are off until next Tuesday when they will begin the defense of their back-to-back state titles. We will be at Saint Thomas Aquinas Tuesday to take own Shawnee Heights. We should travel to Topeka on Thursday for the Regional Championship to take on Seaman. Then Tuesday for the State Quarter Finals, we will either be back home or at St. James's—and then hopefully off to Hummer in Topeka for the Final Four.

The Saints won their third straight and 18 th  overall Saturday, downing Bishop Carroll 2-0 at the Class 5A State Championship in Topeka.    Prior to Saturday, Bishop Carroll had permitted just one goal to an opponent from within the borders of the state of Kansas all season. Aquinas equaled that total in a flash. Post Season Begins!

16 May 2023 vs. Shawnee Heights (4-0) Game 17: 14-2-1 2023 STATS The Saints finished the regular season strong, winning the EKL, with a 13-2-1 record, and beating some big time teams to end it. All of that gave us just this one home game tonight as the 5-seed in the Northeast—now that's a bit odd, but it all started with our first dose of Topeka. 6-9-1 Heights kept the score reasonable as we only lead 1-0 at half, winning 4-0. We did hold possession most of the time, and only rarely did the Thunderbirds cross midfield—but they played hard for the entire game, and their keeper was active, saving quite a few shots.  The Thuderbirds created a few stats in the second half—a shot on goal and a couple of corners For us, the only worry is Alexis, as she landed funny fairly early in the second half. I am sure only an MRI will tells us for sure if her knee made it through the fall in tack (a late-night report suggested she was going to be ok). Let's hope so. She has been so good all sea...
